Job Description

This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days permonth in the office. You can be based in our office in The Hague, Londonor Washington, D.C. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission for candidates who will be based in London or Washington, D.C. To be eligible for this position in US, you must be a resident of DC, Maryland or Virginia at the start of employment.

About the Program:

This position is based in WRI’s Global Development Department, Government and Multilateral Relations Team. The Department supports and coordinates all fundraising at WRI and is organized around 5 teams: Government and Multilateral Relations; Foundation Relations; Corporate Relations; Individual Giving; and Development Operations.

Fundraising plays a vital role in enabling WRI to influence policy, scale up action, and transform human systems across energy, cities, food, water, and land.  

Job Highlight:

In this role, you willsupport the Government and Multilateral Relations team’s new business development and donor diversification work with a selected set of non-European government donors and multilateral funds.You will be expected to work closely with other members of the team and report to the Senior Director, Government and Multilateral Relations.

What you will do:

Deepen WRI’s institutional relations and fundraising with the GCF and GEF (45%)

• Work with relevant WRI Country Offices and Global Programs to identify opportunities for working with the GCF Readiness and Support Program and Project-Specific Assessment Approach
• Work with other WRI Core Functionsin assessing and strengthening WRI’s readiness for longer term accreditation to the GCF
• Pursue funding opportunities with the GEF and advice Country Offices and Global Programs on the best ways to secure these opportunities
• Help strengthen collaboration with key partner organizations that are accredited to GEF (e.g., UN agencies, Multilateral Development Banks, other environmental NGOs)
• Review and help improve large multiyear proposals to GCF and GEF
• Monitor the funding pipeline and strategic engagement activities with these funds via SalesForce and other internal tools
• Cultivate key donor relations and prepare high-level meetings for the CEO and other senior executives

Deepen WRI’s institutional relations and fundraising with selected non-European government donors (45%)

• Support approaches that help deepen WRI’s strategic engagement and fundraising with government and public sector agencies in two non-European countries (e.g. Canada, Australia)
• Identify new areas of potential mutual interest and develop or refine multiyear, high-impact fundraising plans with relevant government agencies in these countries
• Work closely with WRI Country Offices and Global Programs to implement these plans in a coordinated OneWRI way, with a view tosecuring new government funding for WRI
• Cultivate key donor relationships at working and senior levels
• Increase WRI’s visibility amongst key stakeholders in the target countries, e.g. via the organization of joint events, speaking engagements, thought leadership
• Advise teams on requirements to apply for restricted and competitive opportunitiesand review and help improve large proposals
• Help strengthen institutional ties with key partner organizations(such as donor country-based NGOs and research institutes)
• Monitor the funding pipeline and strategic engagement activities with these governments via SalesForce and other internal tools
• Prepare high-level meetings and visits for the CEO and other senior executives

Oversee the work of a junior staffsupporting your work (10%)

• Oversee prospect research, logistical support for external donor engagement and internal coordination work
• Ensure coaching and oversight of this staff on a regular basis
• Monitor and evaluatethe staff’sperformance annually
• Propose training and other career development opportunities.

What you will need:

• Education: You have a completed Masters’degree in International Development, Business Administration, International Relations or a related topic
• Experience: You have relevant work experience in a similar fundraising or business development function
• Experience in developing and in executing multiyear institutional fundraising plans in complex, matrixed organizations
• Demonstrated track record in raising large programmatic 7-figure grants from government agencies and/or multilateral funds, including experience in winning competitively bid funding awards
• Experience in cultivating and managing high-value donor relationships
• Experience working in a multicultural, geographically distributed team across multiple time zones
• You are willing and able to travel internationally
• Prior experience working in an international NGO, multilateral climate or environment fund or bilateral ODA provider as a partnership or grant officer would be a plus
• Prior experience working with GCF or GEF would be a plus
• Familiarity with climate and environmental issues would be a plus
• Languages:you have verbal and written proficiency in English
• Requirements:Existing work authorization is required is based in London or D.C.

Potential Salary:

If based in the Netherlands:€82,000 – €103,000

If based in the UK: £67,000 - £84,000

If based in the US:$116,000 - $139,000

Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
